Word from the Director
Welcome!
Building on a long history of interdisciplinary and collaborative work at the local, national and international levels, the Institute of Women's Studies promotes interdisciplinary feminist education and research in a bilingual and multicultural setting. Founded in 1999, the Institute offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs and hosts a wide range of conferences and seminars every year.
Our faculty, affiliated scholars and researchers are recognized at home and abroad for their research and expertise in fields that encompass: women's health; women's social movements; feminist theory and literature; queer theory; globalization; gender and migration; racism and post-colonial studies; gender and development; and human rights.
Students may pursue a major or a minor in Women's Studies, a joint honours bachelor's degree in Women's Studies, a doctorate in Women's Studies, a master's in Women's Studies or a collaborative program in Women's Studies at the master's level. The Institute continues to grow in response to the demand for critical feminist education at the graduate level, and in particular to the need for French-language programs in women's studies. For students, the Institute's ideal location in Canada's capital offers rich opportunities for varied work with researchers and activists in women's organizations, NGOs and government.
We welcome you to the Institute of Women's Studies!
