2008

  • December 9th, 2008 : a conference will be held by Cathy Herbrand, post-doctorate researcher at the University of Ottawa. The conference is entitled "Étudier des "configurations parentales": quelques considérations méthodologiques" and will take place at the Desmarais Building, room 3105, from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm. Ms Herbrand will be introduced by Professor Marie-Blanche Tahon. This conference will be held in French.
  • December 4th, 2008: a student conference entitled «Le porno et ses représentations» will be held by ten sociology students. The conference will take place in the Vanier Building, room 146, between 9:00 to 4:30 pm. This conference will be held in French.
  • November 12th, 2008: Professor Nuah M. Mukungu will be presenting his book « L'expérience d'élevage périurbain à Kinshasa - Entre 'débrouille' et 'entreprise' (L'Harmattan, 2008).
  • November 12th, 2008: SPECIAL EVENT : A tribute to Claude Lévi-Strauss - Celebrating his 100th birthday
  • October 24th, 2008: Special invitation to all Sociology and Anthropology students: A day in Montreal for the ACSALF. You can register now at the Departement of Sociology and Anthropology. For details, click here.
  • October 23rd, 2008 : Information session about the International internship offered in Winter 2009 at 6:00 pm, room 3120, Desmarais Building.
  • October 21st, 2008 , Professor Subrata Sankar Bagchi will give a lecture about the concept of Third World "Other". The title will be "Can we unsilence the ‘Other’?" Professor Scott Simon will introduce Dr. Bagchi.
  • September 26th, 2008 at 1pm - Mini-conference
    Students who participated in the Field Research course in French Polynesia in May 2008 will be presenting their work at room 3102 at Desmarais Hall. All are welcome. The presentations will be in French. (Program)

  • September 23rd, 2008 , the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in collaboration with the School of Political Studies, the Departement of History, the Chair in Slovak History and Culture and the Chair in Ukrainian Studies present Dr. György Földes of the Institute of Political History, Budapest with the lecture on The National Question in Central Europe: The Case of Hungary and Romania.
