Travel to International Conferences
Travel grants for the participation in international conferences
(Outside Canada and the United States. Hawaii is admissible due to distance in
relation to trips to Europe)
The Faculty of Social Sciences offers support for participation in international scientific conferences. International conferences must include participants from three or more different countries. The funding comes in part from SSHRC and in part from Research Management Services. The program objectives are the following:
- to provide access to venues appropriate for the timely dissemination of research findings;
- to enhance the visibility of the research activities of the Faculty of Social Sciences;
- to facilitate communication with potential research collaborators and to receive feedback on ongoing research;
- to allow our faculty members an opportunity to receive feedback from colleagues, which should assist them in their publication efforts
- to learn about new developments and knowledge in a way that facilitates research.
Funding from the faculty is intended to complement funding from other sources, including the travel funds of departments/schools.
Requests for international conference travel will be considered by the Research Committee of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
There are three competitions every year:
- April 15th, 4:00 p..m.
- September 1st, 4:00 p.m.
- December 1st, 4:00 p.m.
Applications must be submitted prior to the date of the event. Requests from faculty members who have not received support for international conference travel in the past two years are eligible. Professors may have to decide about their conference participation before receiving a response to their funding request from the Faculty. All awards are conditional on papers having been accepted on the conference program. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Results are announced within four weeks of the competition deadline.
