Research at the Faculty

A World of Ideas to Change the World

Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences Research website.

At the heart of Canada's capital, the University of Ottawa is one of our country's leading research universities. The Faculty of Social Sciences has made research the centerpiece of its academic programs and the focal point of strategic areas of development, in turn enriching the quality of teaching and learning.

With its 9 academic units (Criminology, Economics, International Development and Global Studies, Political Studies, Psychology, Public and International Affairs, Social Work, Sociology and Anthropology and Women's Studies) and its 260 professors whose expertise is recognized both nationally and internationally, the synthesis of teaching and research is fundamental to the Faculty.

Research within a Faculty of this size and with such a wide range of academic disciplines is necessarily based on interdisciplinary, as demonstrated by our eight research priorities.

  • “Francophonies canadiennes”, minorities, governance
  • Gender, social justice, marginalization
  • Health, lifespan development, cognition, intervention
  • International affairs, development, globalization
  • Security, conflict, human rights
  • Citizenship, identity, diversity
  • Economics, public policy, public administration
  • Environment, sustainable development, natural resources
