KNOTT, Verner
Biography:
Verner Knott (PhD, CPsych) is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry/University of Ottawa, an adjunct professor at the Department of Psychology, at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and is head of the Clinical Neuroelectrophysiology and Cognitive Research Laboratory at the Institute of Mental Health Research/Royal Ottawa Hospital. His research interests are focused on the use of non-invasive electrophysiological (EEG, ERPs) measurement techniques and computerized cognitive tests in probing brain-behavior abnormalities in psychiatric disorders and their amelioration with pharamcotherapeutic treatments.
Research Interests:
- Nicotine addiction, with emphasis on acute reinforcement mechanisms associated with smoking/nicotine administration
- Attention deficits, with emphasis on their role in schizophrenic and dementia etiology and treatment response
- Acute anxiety/panic, with emphasis on functional monitoring during drug challenges
- Early treatment predictors, with emphasis on the single test dose response profile as an outcome predictor in the pharmacotherapy of depression, schizophrenia and dementia.
More recent research efforts have concentrated on the role of nicotine in psychiatric disorders, with particular emphasis on nicotine as: an adjunct to neuroleptic treatment in Tourette's syndrome and as an attentional/mnemonic facilitator in Alzheimer's dementia and schizophrenia.
