We have a strong commitment to understanding and promoting children’s well-being. As such, there are a number of different topics that we are examining in the research laboratory. We have a strong focus on children’s behavioural and emotional development and on the contexts which can influence such development, from the pre-natal environment to neighbourhoods. We also are examining experiences that can have a negative influence on children’s optimal development, in particular child maltreatment. Here, we are interested not only in understanding risk and protective factors but also in using this knowledge to ensure that the most effective interventions are offered to children and families in which maltreatment has occurred.
