The Institute for the Prevention of Crime (IPC) brings together scientific knowledge from authoritative sources so that Canadians will enjoy lower rates of crime and victimization.
Our web site offers policy makers, practitioners, the media
and the public access to this knowledge. It presents:
- trends in crime in Canada and evidence on how to reduce crime,
- proven examples of projects that have prevented crime,
- reasons for investing in prevention of crime, including its cost effectiveness and support by the public,
- a virtual library of Canadian and foreign commissions that have recommended ways to invest in sustained prevention of crime.
The Institute is launching a series of publications with IPC Review, Making Cities Safer: International Strategies and Practices and Building a Safer Canada: First Report of the National Working Group on Crime Prevention. These build on Less Law, More Order: The Truth about Reducing Crime which provides the reader with an overview of the conclusions from scientific research and recommendations for action.
