1. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet certain requirements:
- Be registered full-time in an undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa during the 2011-2012 academic year
- Have completed a minimum of 54 credits in their program at the time they submit their candidacy
- Be able to speak fluently in English
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0
- Have an in-depth knowledge of international relations or international law
- Be able to defend ideas in public
- Be able to participate in a preparatory conference in a Quebec university and at the National Model United Nations conference in New York held in April 1-5 or April 3-7, 2012
- Be able to travel legally to the United States (www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/whti-ivho/menu-eng.html)
2. Application Process for SCS3100 A
Interested students are required to submit their candidacy no later than October 7, 2011. Candidates will be selected according to their experiences and knowledge that could be deemed useful to Model United Nations conferences.
If you are accepted into the course, you will receive an email at the beginning of November informing you on the next steps. You will need to confirm your participation by a return e-mail no later than November 11, 2011.
Should you confirm your participation, you must pay participation costs to QMUN at the same time you hand in your application for the course. The amount will be confirmed in November. The costs are not refundable.
To apply:
- You must apply to SCS3100 A by completing the application form.
- Along with your application form, you must include the following:
- résumé (curriculum vitae)
- letter of intent (500 words maximum)
- your CGPA (no need to submit your transcript)
The completed form along with the required documents must be returned no later than October 7, 2011 to:

Note: Registration for this course is not possible through Rabaska, the University of Ottawa student-accessed online registration system.
3. Documents to be Completed Before Departure
In addition to your course registration form, you will have to complete certain documents before your departure to New York. Please submit the following by the stipulated dates (see the Important Dates section):

If accepted for the course, we will provide the registration form by email. The completed form must be returned in person at DMS 3125 or by email if the form is scanned (if you choose the last method, please make sure that the information is legible).
*Please note that for some students, this course could possibly count towards your program’s optional courses (POL, PAP, EIL, ECH, DVM, ECI, EPP).
5. Transportation and Accommodations
Transportation
The Faculty will handle the purchase of the bus tickets and medical insurance (mandatory). No other alternative transportation or travel insurance will be accepted. The departure and return dates will be the same for each student. This means that the entire class will travel together to New York. The travel costs are non-refundable.
Accommodations
All student-delegates will have rooms booked at the New York Marriott Marquis or at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. Please note that all student-delegates will have to share a hotel room with two or three other class students. No exceptions will be allowed. Hotel costs are non-refundable.
6. Passports and Visas
You must have a valid passport and must be able to travel legally to the United States. You are responsible for securing your passport and/or visa. You must have a valid passport before leaving the country as well as a visa if necessary. You must begin the process of obtaining these documents immediately once you are accepted in the course. You must provide us with a photocopy of your passport.
If you are refused legal entry into the U.S., you will not be reimbursed the costs associated with the NMUN.
If you are a Canadian Citizen, please consult the Passport Canada website (www.ppt.gc.ca) for information on the necessary steps.
If you are not a Canadian Citizen, you are responsible to undertake the appropriate steps to consult your embassy or consulate to find out about your travel requirements and fees to the United States.
