Sexual Health of Women with Vaginismus or Provoked Vestibulodynia
Pain during sexual activity (dyspareunia) and difficulties with vaginal penetration (vaginismus) are surprisingly common but very frustrating women’s health problems. They can affect a woman’s sexuality, her relationship, her psychological well-being, her ability to take care of her gynecological health and, for some women, prevent the conception of a baby.
Researchers from the Human Sexuality Laboratory at the University of Ottawa are carrying out studies to understand these problems and contribute to the development of more effective treatment.
Women (age 18-44) are invited to participate if they meet any of the following criteria:
- Have always had difficulty with vaginal penetration
- Have ALWAYS had pain during at least half of all intercourse occasions
- Do not experience pain with sexual intercourse
This research is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and approved by the University of Ottawa Research Ethics Board.
