Canadian Future Achievers (CFA) Program

Canadian Future Achievers Program

About the Program

The Canadian Future Achievers Leadership Program, founded in 2008 by Professors Cynthia and Yves Bled, aims to encourage and reward minority youths, between the ages of 9-16 years, who demonstrate potential for positive self-fulfillment and who are committed to Canada's sustenance and development. The program is specifically geared towards minority youths of First Nations, Inuit and Caribbean ancestry.

A Promising Joint Venture:
A Word from the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences

As Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, I am pleased to announce a new partnership between The Canadian Future Achievers (CFA) Program and the University of Ottawa. The CFA Program previously operated as a registered Canadian charity. Although it is now under the aegis of the Faculty of Social Science at uOttawa, the Program's aims remain the same:

to encourage and reward minority youths, between the ages of 9-16 years, who demonstrate potential for positive self-fulfillment and who are committed to Canada's sustenance and development.

The Faculty of Social Sciences is the University of Ottawa's largest faculty which testifies to our capacity to attract both students and researchers. As such, we are especially well placed to play an active role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow and in promoting the values of excellence, leadership, and education.

Because the University of Ottawa is buttressing the CFA with institutional support in the form of administrative reinforcement, the CFA Leadership Program will be better able to increase its outreach and to leverage the technical and human resources of our University and Faculty, while tapping into our various networks, to further promote and expand the program. This change has the advantage of offering consistency and permanency to the high achieving youths who are selected across Canada as Canadian Future Achievers.

Already, and since its creation, the CFA Program has significantly touched the lives of young minorities across the country. This new affiliation will allow us to likely embrace other youth communities as soon as it is financially possible for us to do so.

Year after year, an increasing number of schools have participated in the CFA Program by nominating student candidates whom they feel should be recognized for their engagement and leadership. Over the span of the project's existence, the difference it has made in the lives of young Canadians is unquestionable.

The Faculty of Social Sciences feels privileged to be affiliated with the CFA and we look forward to advancing in our quest to help young Canadian minorities excel, both personally and academically.

Marcel Merette, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ottawa.
