Truda Rosenberg Scholarship

PURPOSE OF FUND

This annual scholarship has been established in honor of Dr. Truda Rosenberg, BscN’62 MA Psy’66, and PhD Psy’71. Her personal life and professional enterprises have at all times been guided by a passionate sense of justice and equity and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding. This scholarship is intended to support any genuine research effort into minority group discrimination and the promotion of harmonious multicultural relationships with priority given to anti-Semitism issues.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria:

This scholarship is awarded without distinction of age, sex or linguistic or cultural background to a student registered full-time in a PhD program at the University of Ottawa., whose thesis proposal has been approved in compliance with program regulations and whose central thesis research topic deals with minority group discrimination and the promotion of harmonious multicultural relationships with priority given to anti-Semitism issues.

Application Procedure:

The scholarship is awarded each year by competition. Applicants must submit a letter describing the relevance of their thesis research with respect to the objectives of the scholarship and their prior experiences living in other cultures, a copy of their thesis proposal as submitted for program approval, a summary of their thesis proposal in the University’s other official language, a curriculum vitae, a copy of their transcripts, two letters of reference (one from the thesis supervisor, one from another person familiar with the applicant’s cross cultural experiences and commitment), and prior publications or other information that might bear on the selection.

Recipients are selected on the basis of their academic performance, their previous and current social commitment towards issues of minority group discrimination or multiculturalism, the feasibility and expected contribution of the thesis research project, period of residency in other cultural milieu, and any language skills to be acquired or refined during the training period. (Should two projects be equal in all other respects, financial need to the applicant may be considered).

On the basis of the applications, the Selection Committee may wish to invite some of the applicants to direct interviews. If no suitable applicant is selected, the funds for the year will remain in the trust.

Renewal Procedure:

An application for renewal consist of the applicant’s report of progress in the word to date and justifying the work still to be done, and a letter from the thesis supervisor, describing and evaluating the work that was done. Any change from the original application, document should be submitted.
