Ian Charles Scott Memorial Award

This award commemorates Ian Charles Scott who graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Sociology) in 1989. He subsequently fulfilled his career aspirations with distinction by becoming a constable with the 51st Division in a very cosmopolitan downtown Toronto neighbourhood. He died while off-duty at the age of twenty-six in a car accident. Ian Scott was especially interested in sociology and criminology during his studies at the University of Ottawa and had a particular concern and interest in law enforcement.


Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant must:

  • have completed at least two years of studies, full-time, in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Social Sciences and be registered in the third year of the program;
  • have a documented background and continuing interest in community and/or volunteer activities which involve helping people; and
  • have an acceptable academic standing at the Faculty of Social Sciences (a cumulative grade point average of at least 6.5).

Application Procedure:
Applications must be made through the Online Scholarships and Bursaries System, available through uoZone, and should include:

  • a statement of community interests from the applicant;
  • a resume indicating a continuing commitment and interest in community and/or volunteer activities which involve helping people;
  • a reference letter in support of the applicant's commitment and/or volunteer activities; and
  • a copy of the applicant's academic transcript.
