Young Researcher of the Year Award– Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences’ Young Researcher of the Year Award is presented annually to a member of the teaching staff who has made outstanding contributions to research.
Eligibility:
To be admissible, the nominee must hold a full-time tenured or tenure-track position at the university or a regular position at an affiliated institute. And at the time of nomination, the nominee must have completed at least two years, but no more than seven years as a principal investigator and full-time professor/researcher.
Nomination process:
Nominations should include:
- A letter of recommendation from the chair or director
- A description of the candidate’s research contribution
- If possible, one or more letters of endorsement from students and/or colleagues
- An OCGS format CV
Nominations must be submitted to the Dean by March 15. If no candidates are submitted, the Dean and Vice-Deans will propose nominations.
Selection process:
The selection committee will be chaired by the Vice-Dean, Research, and composed of the members of the Faculty’s Research Committee.
Selection Criteria:
The Faculty of Social Sciences’ Excellence in Research Award is granted to a member of the teaching staff who has earned distinction for his or her unit and Faculty as a result of the importance and exceptional characteristics of his or her research work.
Award:
At the Dean's Brunch, the recipient will receive a commemorative plaque as well as a research assistantship and the amount of $2,500 in research funding. Every year, the name of the recipient will be added to the Faculty’s commemorative plaque to be displayed permanently.
