Graduate Programs

The Department offers two programs at the graduate level:

  1. Master's of Arts in Economics

The Department's teaching staff includes 17 full-time professors and several part-time professors. All are specialists in one or more fields of expertise and research, some being known throughout the world. They bring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the classroom.

Recently, our programme has been modified to make it more flexible and better adapted to contemporary trends and the needs of the labour market. Besides acquiring a thorough knowledge of the traditionnal approach to economics, students also have the opportunity, within the framework of certain courses, to familiarize themselves with lesser known alternative approaches. Furthermore, we have coordinated our M.A. and Ph.D. programs to give the opportunity to more students to transfer and complete a Ph.D. in Economics.

Compulsory M.A. courses are taught in English and French. Optional courses are given in either English or French, their language of instruction generally alternating from year to year. This gives bilingual student a wider choice of courses, but does not prevent unilingual students from pursuing their studies in economics.

  2. Ph.D. in Economics

The Ph.D. program is offered jointly with Carleton University. In addition to this, the Department is one of the 10 participating units in the collaborative program in Canadian Studies at the Ph.D. level offered at the University of Ottawa.

The vast majority of Ph.D. courses are taught in English, but students may write and defend their thesis in English or French.
