Economics Week

FROM MARCH 8th TO MARCH 12th 2010

The Faculty of Social Sciences, the Economics Student Association and the Department of Economics are pleased to invite you to the Economics Week. Scattered throughout a whole week, we have organized a series of events that have been designed to explain the ins and outs of the Economics program AND show you how to get involved and active in that field of study!

All activities have been selected to not only provide a fun way to meet professors and students, but also to give you an  in-depth look at the Economics program and show you how you can maximize all the exciting opportunities that are available to you as an Economics student.

Lecture - Catherine Armstrong
Dr. Armstrong will share her views on Health Economics

Monday, March 8th, salle DMS 3105
From 5:30p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Discussing controversial Health Economic issues revolving around matters that directly affect you. Health Economics is an extremely interesting field where politics and economics collide. Be informed and attend an event that you will never forget.

This event will be in English and you will have chances to ask questions.

 

Movie night - Wall Street

From 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., salle DMS3105

A young and impatient stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider whom takes the youth under his wing.

Lecture (bilingual) - Scott Brison
Scott Brison the Liberal Critique for International Trade will share his vison on International Trade for Canada.

Tuesday March 9th, room DMS 3120
From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Critique of International Trade for the Liberal party will share his vision for Canada. Where should Canada be in the near future in terms of trading partners on the international stage? Should we diversify our trading partners?  Critical issues such as these and many more will be discussed. This is your chance to ask questions to one of the most influential MPs on Parliament Hill.

From 12:00 p.m.to 1:30 p.m.

Giving our students the opportunity to meet world-renowned economists in various fields. Dress to impress and enjoy light refreshments while debating exciting economic topics. This is a bilingual event and you will have chances to ask questions.

The Critique of Finance for the Liberal party will share his vision for Canada. Critically assessing the Economic Action Plan while offering his input on various economic issues and his past experience as Chief Economist at the RBC. This is your chance to ask questions to one of the most influential MPs on Parliament Hill.

Vice President of Franklin Templeton Investments. He will discuss how the investment industry dealt with the world economic recession. David Gray lays out his plan if he was Finance Minister of Canada and offers economic analysis on microeconomic issues.

What would David Gray do if he was the Finance Minister for Canada? He will layout his own economic plan that will steer Canada into the new century. This is your chance to ask questions on various economic issues that deal with Canada’s ability to manage its economy.
