Canada’s Task Force Kandahar,
2005-2008: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back
Dr. Lee Windsor
University of New Brunswick
Thursday, March 26, 2009
12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Desmarais Building, room 3120
Lee Windsor is the lead author, with David Charters and Brent Wilson, of the recent account of Canadian combat operations in Afghanistan, Kandahar Tour: Turning Point in Canada’s Afghan Mission (2008). The book was based on a close-up study of a six month rotation of Canadian soldiers, including a contingent from CFB Gagetown, police, diplomatic and aid officials to Afghanistan in the first half of 2007. The study was controversial when released for its depiction of a mission that, while difficult, was showing signs of success. Dr. Windsor will deliver an update on his book’s findings in the light of conditions in Afghanistan since 2007.
Dr. Lee Windsor is Deputy Director of the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society at the University of New Brunswick. He is a former member of the 8th Canadian Hussars and the West Nova Scotia regiment. He is completing a manuscript on Allied operations in Italy in 1944 and studies of Canadian Army post Cold War operations abroad.
A light lunch will be available. The Ottawa Roundtable on Security and Intelligence is open to faculty and students, to CASIS members, government officials, interested members of the public and the media. No registration for these events is required and no fee is charged.
