Is Afghanistan Canada’s Last War?

Dr Bland’s talk will examine factors that will compel future Canadian governments to eschew major international military deployments after the Canadian Forces current mission in Afghanistan ends in 2011.

One of Canada’s most widely read and respected defence academics, Dr. Douglas Bland is Professor and holds the Chair in Defence Management Studies at the Queen's University School of Policy Studies. His research is concentrated in the fields of defence policy making and management at national and international levels, the organization and functioning of defence ministries, and civil-military relations. His books include The Administration of Defence in Canada, 1947-84, Chiefs of Defence: Government and the Unified Command of the Canadian Armed Forces, and Canada Without Armed Forces?.
